I have to admit, I'm pretty sad to see it go tomorrow.

Kinja'd!!!

When I was driving it though, I couldn't help but notice how bad the transmission had gotten just in the 2 weeks since I've driven it. You can actually hear gears clunking into place and going into 5th feels like being lightly rear-ended. I was terrified to go over 2,500 RPM.

But, for the last 7 years it's been nothing but good to my family. From taking all of us down to Florida to being the first car I drove after I got my permit. Sure, it hasn't been in the family as long as the Safari or the Silverado, but there are tons of memories in this car.

And I'm sure it wasn't the best car we could have bought back in 2008, but I'll be damned if it wasn't a great car. And I have to admit that I'm happy we got one before Saturn bit the dust. I have to imagine if the rest of the lineup was in fact as good as this one, there really wasn't a reason for them to close.

Snapped a picture of the mileage when I got home. 74,504 miles. Tomorrow when we give it up, It'll probably have about 74,550.

My mom's getting a 2014 Fusion 2.0T to replace the Vue because the transmission is starting to go. A common issues in GM's transverse 6-speed auto pre-2010.

She wanted a sedan. She said she was ready to get out of an SUV and into a car. Plus, those are really hard to find without a 4-cylinder.

She is making the exact same move that my mom made yesterday. Also, did her vue have the Honda V6?

GM's 3.6L. I don't think the 2nd generation ever got Honda's 3.5L.

It's a damn shame that the transmission started going so soon. How much is the dealer giving on trade?

$6,500, exactly what KBB said it was worth in "perfect" condition, so at least we're getting full value for it.

Wow. Did the dealer know of the issue? That seems insanely good.

Nope, and they didn't mention anything after the test drive they took of it. We certainly weren't going to mention anything. They probably wouldn't have even accepted it as a trade if we mentioned the transmission.

If they test drove it, then its their own damn fault for not realizing that there was a problem.

*single tear* You best have blasted some good music out the speakers on that drive. I remember when my mom got rid of her Ion. Had nearly 130k on it. Absolutely 0 issues, 2004 MY. Funnily enough she also bought a Ford but she got the Five Hundred not a Fusion. If I hadn't gotten so tall then it likely would've kept going. I wonder if its still going to this day.

I still remember quite vividly getting it. I remember crying because she was getting rid of the Contour she had. I got a 1:43 scale Hot Wheels of an Electric Blue Ion, just like hers. I also remember the first time going to the Zoo in that car and talking to it in the parking lot. So many good memories. Everytime we drive past what used to be the Saturn dealer I smile, even though its a Kia dealer now.

I think I'll stop rambling now. Hope the Fusions gonna serve you guys well for another 7 years!

It was just up the road, but luckily a good song was on so out of habit I turned it up anyway.

I still remember the day we picked up the Vue. It was miserable out and the car was parked on the showroom floor with another Vue, a grey Redline, parked back-to-back to it. I remember thinking how huge it looked to 10 year old me. The second we knew that was in fact out car my brother and I started climbing through it and playing with things. Then my mom had to drive it out the doors to the showroom, which she was absolutely terrified to do. Then we couldn't figure out how to turn the wipers on.

The dealer we bought ours from is now a Mitsubishi dealer. Interesting swap.

I'm hoping I actually get the Fusion as a hand-me-down like the Vue was supposed to be. I'm sure my mom's next car will be a CTS.

I just looked up the specs of the Ford Fusion 2.0T vs the Volvo S60 2.0T, it looks like if we were to drag race our mother's cars, that there would be a near tie.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were at least slightly based on the same engine architecture. Ford owning Volvo for quite a while and all.

I'm sure they are quite similar. The Hp and torque figures were quite similar.

Funny thing about auto trannys is that sometimes when they've got problems it can be better to beat on them a bit more. Spinning it faster turns the oil pump more, which increases fluid pressure. Better fluid pressure means the clutches are less likely to slip.

While probably true, we're giving it up tomorrow and I wasn't about to be the one the transmission dies on.
